If you could 'uninvent' something, what would it be?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 21, 2007:
Cars. I sit at the traffic light watching as they come off the interstate, one after another, big and little, red and green and yellow and one person sitting behind the steering wheel. America's transportation choice. I sit in traffic among them...no better. I think the world would have evolved into a better place without them.

It's true that cars have become the bane of American existence. But if there were no cars, you wouldn't be able to throw a bunch of stuff in the back and hit the open highway for parts unknown … .
That was the big advertising thrust initially and the appeal of freedom is undeniable. But in reality, the stuff most people are throwing in the back is possibly a brown bagged lunch and the open highway is a slow moving parkinglot to work every morning. A road trip sounds nice though.
